9We’ve already talked about how old your child should be when they go visit a dentist for the first time. If you missed it, click here to read about it. If you’re now wondering how in the world to know when your child should stop seeing a pediatric dentist and start going to the adult dentist, I have the answers for you! It can be a confusing thing to try and figure out when they are too old or still too young and yadadada… you know how it is. It also can be scary for kids to make the switch! Don’t worry, we can answer all your questions.

Okay, so if your kid is a little nervous about switching dentists, don’t even worry about it! This is natural! Sometimes children become attached to their pediatric dentist and just feel safe and comfortable there. That’s good! So, when making the switch, it is crucial for us to make the environment as welcoming and awesome of an experience as we can! At Parklane, I assure you that we will take care of your children no matter the age so that they feel comfortable making the switch.

Many people make the switch once their adult teeth have grown in completely or almost completely. Pediatric dentists have more expertise and experience with baby and developing teeth, while adult teeth are for adult dentists.. Much of this is up to your kid and you. If you feel it is time to get more care that is specific towards developed and adult teeth, then now could be the time. The usual age range is early to late teen years when most kids start to feel comfortable and ready to switch to a regular dentist. With them growing up and feeling like they want to be more independent, they will probably express more interest in switching from their childhood dentist to something a little more “grown up.” Just remember that no matter if they are anxious or ready to switch, we at Parklane are here to make the transition has great as it can be!
